Six Rural Writers - Thoughts on writing and life

Fall is in the air, the heater is running in the home - "rainy days and Monday's always get me down," as Karen Carpenter sang back in the '70s. Autumn is actually my favorite time of year, but there are cold days that seem to dull the senses. After a hot summer, and busy family life, part of me is gung-ho to get back to business, but the other part is lazy and just wants some hot tea and a comfy blanket.

The Over 50 Writer

Three years ago at this time, I was lying in a hospital bed, unable to take care of myself in the most basic ways. I had had a stroke in the left side of my brain, the part that controls speech, language, writing, logic, and organization…the parts important to a writer, as well as the right side of the body.

Hope at Any Age - The Over 50 Writer

The love of story and poems came at a young age, thanks to my grandmother. She used to read fairy tales and poems to me, and the sound of her voice made the words musical. When I learned how to read and write, I imagined writing my own stories and poems for others to read.
