They say that God works in mysterious ways, and we never know just how or when, but He will work!

I recently called a friend about some bicycles my husband had fixed up to donate to her non-profit organization that helps people in need. She sounded surprised when she answered as she was just about to call me. Letting her go first, a sense of awe and wonder came over me as I heard her story, our story.

Many years ago, I prepared a little gift bag with a stuffed bear holding a heart, a small Bible, an envelope with a personal note of encouragement and some money. I had given it to my friend to give to a woman getting out of an abusive situation. I knew Judy* would pray for the right person to give it to, and I prayed for the person who would receive it as I put it together and for some time afterwards. Two people now prayed for God’s blessing on the future recipient of this
gift.

The week before our conversation, a woman had called Judy for help. She rushed towards the address given and saw the woman standing on a sidewalk with a dog and wagon of belongings. Her abusive husband had kicked her out of their home. As they drove to a place of safety, Judy felt God nudge her that this was the one—the one who needed the gift that was packed long ago. When the woman received the gift bag and opened it, she grabbed the stuffed bear and clutched
it to her chest sobbing. After the tears subsided, she went on to tell Judy of her desperation—but now she had hope.

Judy and I continue to pray for this woman and are in awe of God’s timing and work. Compassion and prayer put together a much-needed gift for a stranger.

Faithful prayer over years and listening for God’s direction brought hope and unexpected kindness to another.

God’s timing…perfect.
